Greg Latza is a born and raised South Dakotan photographer. Growing up on a farm near Letcher, he developed a profound appreciation for the land and its stories. This connection to his upbringing is evident in much of his work, which often reflects themes of agriculture, small-town life, and the natural beauty of the region. His photographs serve not only as visual representations but also as narratives that capture the essence of South Dakota's landscapes and communities.
Latza's commitment to documenting the culture and history of South Dakota is further exemplified through his published works. He and his wife, Jodi, have collaborated on nine books of photography that explore various aspects of their home state. Through his photography, Greg Latza not only captures images but also preserves the stories and heritage of South Dakota. His work serves as a testament to the power of visual storytelling, inviting viewers to engage with the subjects and landscapes that define this part of the country.
Sara Mulder is a Sioux Falls, South Dakota artist passionate about creating watercolor & acrylic paintings which are a color-drenched interpretation of the Midwest landscape, specifically her home state of South Dakota. With 20 plus years of painting experience, she fills her time creating at her in-home studio.
Sara is inspired by the way her brushwork interacts with intense color, shape, & space on the canvas; finding a balance of finish & loose, linear expression. One of Sara’s greatest joys is connecting with the people she paints for, making sure every piece is as unique as the space it fills. We are so thrilled to host some of Mulder's wonderous pieces.
Paul Schiller is a fine art nature photographer and shares that photography has always been his greatest passion in life. He started his career as a photojournalist, and after years of putting his energies into advertising, he returned to his roots as a fine art nature photographer. Now he and his wife, Koni, created Acts of Nature®, an innovative imaging company specializing in "interior landscaping." The two make a perfect team thanks to Paul’s artistic eye and Koni's incredible knack for personal customer service.
While his photography interests vary, Paul is especially fond of macro nature photography because of an endless supply of beautiful and changing subjects. "I have gained a newfound appreciation for the little details found just beyond my back door. Vivid colors, intricate designs, delicate softness, the play of light and texture. It's all there for us to enjoy if we only stop and look. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy photographing it."
We are beyond thrilled to have several of Kirby Schultz's mixed media pieces in our store! With over fifty years of experience in advertising and marketing, Schultz has had the opportunity to explore several different avenues in art such as graphic design, interior design, photography, illustration, video production, writing and music production, wood sculpture, and aluminum and steel work.
He also sustains a never-ending fascination with creating collage portraits of iconic personalities, and creates both abstract and fine art pieces using oil and acrylic paints. And after sixty years of creating, Schultz asserts: "you ain't seen nothing yet..."
David Sieh is a South Dakotan artist born in Aberdeen and raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. His upbringing helped foster an appreciation for both the natural and urban worlds. You will find this juxtaposition between industrial and natural in his style and medium choice. Sieh attributes much of his artistic inspiration to nature-- the energy it exudes, the space it allows for contemplation, and its complexities.
The two mediums that are displayed in Alcove are his landscape oils and his acrylic drip paintings. Sieh states that, regardless of his medium, “Paintings are the evidence of a desire to be more than oneself, they are an expression of the know and the unknown. The paintings are a series of actions and reactions until the visual relationships have been resolved. This process may be short lived or often progress over a series of sessions taking several months. When the paintings take on a harmony of their own, they may be deemed complete”
